Meet Sybil Azur

Sybil Azur is a Black/biracial writer, filmmaker, community organizer, and low-key soccer mom. Sybil served as writers’ researcher for the ABC/Shondaland firefighter drama STATION 19 for its final two seasons, and was honored to co-write and produce the show’s 99th episode. She adapted the novel WHY? into a screenplay in 2022 and was a 2021 Comedy Writing Fellow with the Television Academy Foundation. Sybil’s jam is writing one-hour family dramedy with a focus on outliers and sticky relationships. 

 

Sybil is a former actress (The Game, Nip/Tuck, Scrubs) and former professional dancer for stage (world tours with Paula Abdul, Reba McEntire, Earth, Wind & Fire) and screen (Lala Land, Friends, 500 Days of Summer). She is also known for co-producing and co-directing the powerful documentary, PUSHING MOTHERHOOD. She holds a B.A. in African-American Studies and International Development Studies from UCLA, as well as a Screenwriting M.F.A. from Cal State University Northridge. 

 

In 2019, Sybil led the team that succeeded in getting the L.A. Unified School District to commit to 100% clean, renewable energy, and was humbled to win Climate Reality Project’s 2022 Green Ring Award, presented to her by its founder, former Vice President Al Gore. She served as an assembly delegate to the California Democratic Party and was a Board Member for Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, where she distributed thousands of copies of his seminal narrative to kids in underserved areas of Los Angeles. 

 

Sybil is also a fierce mother of two who recently scared an intruder away in the dark of night by turning into a human grizzly bear. When she’s not on perp patrol, she enjoys Yacht Rock, fanny packs, and all iterations of 90 Day Fiancé.
